The Govt. College Karamsar, Rara Sahib, Ludhiana, Punjab was initially established in July 1969. It caters to the needs of downtrodden sections of society, rural masses of the area especially females. The College is affiliated to Punjab University, Chandigarh. The college is a Govt. funded, affiliated, co-education rural institution situated in natural surroundings. It is located in the rural area of Ludhiana in a vast area of land and is providing service to mainly rural students.
Being the only college of its kind in the region, it caters to the needs of educationally impoverished and socially backward areas of the region for higher studies. A majority of students come from surrounding rural areas and belong to weaker sections of society.
The college volunteered to be assessed by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and the self-study report (SSR) for the purpose was submitted by the institution to NAAC in April 2004. A peer team was constituted by the Council to visit the institution and validate the self-study report.
