About the English Department

Introduction

In the English Department we believe in enriching our students’ lives and shaping their understanding of the challenging, diverse and ever-changing world they live in. Not only does our curriculum allow students insights into other cultures, but they are given the opportunity for creativity, self-expression and personal development.  We encourage our students to be inquisitive and explore how the written word can enable them to communicate effectively and appropriately in a range of environments and discourses. Through the study of English we aim to create global citizens who are able to communicate with one another empathetically.

Courses offered

The English Department offers both English Literature (Elective English) and English Language ( General English). The study of English Literature is a chance for personal development and enrichment, along with an enhancement of the skills of evaluation, analysis and comparison, while the main aim of English Language is to deepen students’ interest and enjoyment in the use of English.

English Literary Society

The English Department has also set up an English Literary Society to inculcate the qualities of self-expression among the students. It is a platform where students are encouraged to show their skills and hidden talents by engaging themselves in different activities like essay writing, creative writing, debate, quiz competition, poem recitation, poem writing, story telling and presentation.

Book Bank

The Book Bank has been established in order to enhance the reading skills of the students by offering them a wide range of  books on different topics. The books related to their courses have also been kept in the Book Bank which enable them to improve their performance in the examination. These books are issued to economically challenged students free of cost to ensure that they are not left behind.
